1.15 (8 points total: 1 pt each for discrete/continuous/nominal/ordinal and 1 point each for justifications).

  1. quantitative, discrete: These are numbers and are a count, so you couldn't have 10.5 bacteria for instance. So it is discrete.
  2. qualitative, nominal: There is no natural numbering of occupations and they can't be naturally ordered either.
  3. qualitative, nominal: There is no natural numbering of marital status and they can't be naturally ordered either. Which would come first: divorced or widowed?
  4. quantitative, discrete: Since the said "in months" I'm assuming they meant whole numbers (3 months, but not 3.5 months) so it would be discrete. But time is generally continuous.

1.16 (b) (18 points total: 1 pt each for qualitative/quantitative, 1 pt each for discrete/continuous/nominal/ordinal and 1 point each for justifications).

  1. quantitative, discrete: On a questionnaire they want whole numbers (34 years, for instance) not fractions (not 34.5 years), so it is discrete.
  2. qualitative, nominal: Not numbered and not orderable (is that a word?).
  3. quantitative, discrete: A number but always a whole number. You can't have 2.3 children.
  4. qualitative, ordinal: Rankings like this are always qualitative and ordinal. Even when the choices are numbers they are not a natural numbering system. You could rank from 1-5 or from 11-15 just as easily.
  5. qualitative, nominal: a yes/no question with no natural ordering (which would come first?).
  6. quantitative, discrete: A whole number, you cant buy something 2.4 times.

  1. Opinion 4. 0.635
  2. Yes, I agree. Either opinion 4 or 5 would satisfy this statement which account for 284 of the 375 reviews, which is 75.7% of reviews.
